Michael Gayle

Assistant Restaurant Manager

If you’ve been into the Café in the past several years, odds are you’ve had a friendly chat with Michael Gayle, one of our assistant restaurant managers. “MG” has been a part of the team since 2018, and making people feel welcome is one of his passions. “I love making someone’s day when they come in, offering tours, giving insight on the menu,” he said. “I have a whole list of regulars and it’s great to call them by name and stop by their tables to talk.”

Born in Seattle, Washington, Michael then spent his high school years in Texas. “Then I went to college, worked on a towboat and spent time working for WW Grainger, Inc.,” MG said. “But I didn’t want to work in an office for the rest of my life, so I went to culinary school.”

After graduation, MG worked the line at the Rio Grande and Silver Grill and was executive chef at Whole Foods. “Then I started on the line in The Cache at Ginger and Baker, and became a front of the house manager. I have a soft spot for working the line, but I really enjoy working with our guests.” he said. “I love showing off the building, sharing details about the food, and I love knowing all sides of the back and front of house. I can honestly say it’s the best job I’ve ever had.”

When not working, MG likes to hang out with his daughter, Emily, who’s a recent CSU grad. ”I also like to ride my bike just about every day,” he said. “I sold my car a year ago and I have two bikes, so I ride everywhere.”

MG is also an artist and likes to draw portraits. And, of course, he loves to cook. “We were closed last January and I gained 15 pounds from all the cooking I did!”

MG’s favorite pie? “That would have to be the chocolate Bundt cake we have in the bakery right now,” he said. “Otherwise, the Chocolate Midnight Pie, I’m definitely a chocolate guy.”
