Coffee Shop Supervisor


As a member of the leadership team, the Coffee Shop Supervisor is instrumental in developing and fulfilling the short/long-term goals for the property and executing the Ginger and Baker philosophy. This position is responsible for creating an atmosphere that will inspire guests and associates to return. The individual will instill a strong atmosphere of service excellence in order to promote self-motivation and will redirect performance as soon as discrepancies are observed/experienced. The individual will develop guidelines and goals within the structure of the budget, achieving results through practice of prudent management techniques and cost controlling measures. This position will coordinate and oversee all aspects and functions of the coffee shop as required. A key part of every Team Members job is to serve as a Ginger and Baker ambassador, engaging the guest at every opportunity.

Essential Functions

Coffee Shop Supervisor focuses on maintaining our high standards & maximizing profits of the business. This position contributes to Ginger and Baker success by assisting the Team in executing store operations during scheduled shifts.

  • Hiring, training, coaching, mentoring and enhancing the capabilities of all coffeeshop staff.
  • Providing guidance and direction to the team, including setting performance standards and monitoring performance.
  • Scheduling coffeeshop staff.
  • Develop pars based on historical usage and trends in the business to maximize cash flow.
  • Build essential relationships with Bakery, TK and Cafe including coordination of use of space, scheduling and staffing. Develop quality standards and training manuals in cooperation with the Bakery so that all product in the case meets G&B standards.
  • Communicate continually with Cafe, Bakery and TK staff to ensure product availability, customer feedback, quality issues and PARs.
  • Build a loyal following for the Coffee Shop with events, promotions, guest interactions, social media and marketing ideas and projects that will drive revenue.
  • Maintain inventory of coffee, tea, beverages, paper goods and supplies
  • Perform monthly inventory
  • Maintains a calm demeanor during periods of high volume or unusual events to keep store operating to standard and to set a positive example for the shift team.
  • Anticipates Guest/Team Members and store needs by constantly evaluating environment for cues.
  • Assists with new Team Member training by positively reinforcing successful performance and giving respectful and encouraging coaching as needed.
  • Contributes to positive team environment by recognizing alarms or changes in Team Member morale and performance and communicating them.
  • Creates a positive learning environment by providing clear, specific, timely and respectful coaching and feedback to partners on shift to ensure operational excellence and to improve performance.
  • Discovers and responds to Guests needs.
  • Develops positive relationships with Team by understanding and addressing individual motivation, needs and concerns.
  • Executes store operations during scheduled shifts.
  • Organizes opening and closing duties as assigned.
  • Follows operational policies and procedures, including those for cash handling and safety, sanitation and security, to ensure the safety of all Team Members/Guests during each shift.
  • Follows all cash management and cash register policies and ensures proper cash management practices are followed by the Team.
  • Follows up with baristas during the shift to ensure the delivery of legendary Guest service for all Guests.
  • Provides quality beverages, whole bean, and food products consistently for all Guests by adhering to all recipe and presentation standards.
  • Follows health, safety and sanitation guidelines for all products.
  • Recognizes and reinforces individual and team accomplishments by using existing organizational tools and by collaborating with other Managers to find new, creative, and effective methods of recognition.

  • Protect the safety of self, Team Members and Ginger and Baker Guests at all times.
  • Promptly report any incidents and/or potentially harmful equipment or situations to the immediate supervisor and/or appropriate department(s).
  • Report/document safety-related accidents and incidents at once to immediate supervisor and appropriate department(s), following documented procedures.
  • Follow all company and department safety policies and procedures as required.
  • Operate equipment in a safe manner that will not lead to injury of yourself or others.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required

DISCRETION/ INDEPENDENT JUDGEMENT • This position does represent the company in handling complaints, arbitrating disputes or resolving grievances. As a Supervisor you will be expected to work with Team Members and Guests to ensure satisfaction. • As a member of the Leadership Team you will have to take initiative and get creative in resolving challenges and involve the Director when previous methods have been unsuccessful. • Remains calm under pressure

Preferred Education and Experience

Must possess minimum Associates college degree or equivalent educational experience.  Two (2+) years of relevant Coffee Shop, Restaurant and/or F&B Management experience.  Must have basic proficiency of Microsoft Word & Excel software applications. Must possess good knowledge of service and coffee roasting and making coffee beverages.


Ability to add, subtract, multiply and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions and decimals.  Able to accurately read and make measurements.

Certificates, Licenses, Registrations

Must have TIPS, first aid and/any SERV Safe/County required certifications.
